Sponsoring cats

There are several cats at our shelter that need daily care and attention. Most of the cats at the shelter are rescued from various life-threatening situations. The friendly ones can be found new owners and new homes and start a new life, surrounded by love. There are others who, for various reasons, have to spend the rest of their lives at the shelter. These may be injured, too old or just too wild. We do our best to give them a good life.

Some animal lovers do not have the facilities to home an animal, (for example, pets may be banned in their residence.) You can help by adopting one of these animals, making a monthly, quarterly, bi annual or annual donation for their upkeep and support. (Monthly rate €5) Payment methods Your name will be recorded on the web site with your 'pet's' picture. Every year your pet will send you a photo-card with a progress report and letter. If you are in Malta you can visit your adoptee. The following are some of our cats which are available for sponsoring.

Name: Riviera
History: An emergency call from a tourist took us to this young female cat with a very badly infected eye. Unfortunately, in spite of treatment, we were unable to save Riviera's eye and it had to be removed. Riviera is young and timid and not very confident with people. Her handicap makes it very dangerous for her to be returned to the streets. Riviera needs a sponsor until she can be found an appropriate home.

Name: Sven
History: Sven was brought to us by his feeder after the rest of the colony was poisoned. He was only a young cat and the only one who survived in the colony. Unfortunately he has never lost his distrust of people and this has not helped him find a loving home. He has now lived at our shelter for almost 3 years and he feels safe and care for with us. He hopes he may at least find a caring sponsor.
Sponsorship status: Available

Name: Kitt
History: Kitt has been in our care for over 3 years. When we took Kitt in, he had spent 12 months of his life living under a sofa - afraid to show himself to the new tenants, after his owner left his home to live abroad. Unfortunately Kitt still spends most of his time hidden away out of sight. His favourite place is the cupboard !!

Name: Fife
History: Fife was a very sick stray kitten when he was rescued. His eyes were badly infected and unfortunately he lost the sight of one eye. Fife is now 3 years old and the ward is the only home he has ever known. Fife does not like contact with people but is very good natured with his feline pals.
Sponsorship status: Available

Name: Griga
History: Griga may look a very relaxed cat but she is a keep-your-distance-or-i-will-strike cat. Griga had a very bad experience as a young cat. She was ill-treated by people and chased by dogs. She has never forgotten. Griga has the most beautiful, mesmerising, green eyes.
Sponsorship status: Sponsored

Name: Sooty
History: Sooty is a 3 year old male who was rescued as a kitten from an abandoned house. Having had no contact with people for the first few months of his life, he has no trust in people. He prefers the company of his feline friends at the ward. He is happy and comfortable at the shelter and gets on very well with all the other cats.
Sponsorship status: Available

Name: Jetta
History: Jetta is the sister of Sooty. She, like Sooty, was rescued as a kitten but has never befriended any of us. She prefers the company of her catty friends and will not allow any person to touch her.
Sponsorship status: Available

Name: Felix
History: Felix is an adorable 2 year old male picked up almost a year ago after he was dumped in a public garden and his carer noticed he had great difficulty to eat. He needed to have most of his teeth pulled out as they were rotten and causing him pain. Felix is a very friendly and loving cat and will make a most wonderful companion. Felix tested FIV positive so preferably he would need a home on his own. Until we can find someone to adopt this wonderful cat we are very glad to have him with us.
Sponsorship status: Sponsored

Name: Cicco
History: Cicco is a very loving and friendly 3 year old male cat who has been in our care for the last 2 years. He was rescued - after he got caught in a car engine - frightened but unharmed. Cicco has a slight wheezing problem but he still hopes that some day he may get a good and loving home. He is very happy with us but it would be very comforting for him to know someone out there cares enough to sponsor him.
Sponsorship status: Available

Name: Alfi
History: Alfi's owner passed away and Alfi was disowned by the heirs. Alfi is 10 years old and is not likely to be adopted. However he has a home with us and will be well looked after at our ward.
Sponsorship status: Sponsored

Name: Nina
History: Nina's owners left the island but left poor Nina behind. We had to offer Nina a shelter or she would have ended up in the streets. Poor Nina is very nerveous and and temperamental and this is creating some difficulties in finding her a home. Nina is a friendly cat and would prefer to have a home and get away from the other cats. She likes attention but at her own pace. Nina has been in our care for almost 2 years.
Sponsorship status: Sponsored

Name: Saul
History: Saul is a young feral cat who broke his paw a few months ago. We took him to the vet but there was nothing to do but allow the paw to hopefully heal. Saul is now walking with a limp and is still handicapped. He cannot be put back with his colony as he is an easy target for stray dogs. Saul will stay with us until a suitable safe place can be found for him.
Sponsorship status: Sponsored

Name: Barnaby
History: Barnaby was brought to us after he was hit by a car and suffered a broken front leg. He had a pin inserted in his leg and after 8 weeks of recovery the pin has been removed and Barnaby has made a full recovery. Barnaby's home was the street but it is now too dangerous to put him back out there so until Barnaby can find a safe garden home we shall look after him at our shelter.

Below: photo of a fully recovered Barnaby.
