The name of the Society shall be Stray Animals Support Group (SASG).

  • The aims of the society are:

    1. To improve the condition and control of stray animal colonies in Malta
    2. To provide help to individuals who give refuge to a large number of abandoned dogs and cats.
    3. To raise money through fund raising activities.
    4. To discuss with the Government and other official bodies issues concerning animal welfare.
    5. To run a refuge for a number of abandoned cats and dogs and attempt to find them homes.
    6. To neuter and spay stray cat colonies, then return the cats to the colony after recovery.

    b). Fund raising can be done by all members. However, all members must be informed, and funds passed to the Treasurer.

    c) All funds will be entered in the accounts, which will be made available for inspection to the public on request.

    d) Meetings will be held whenever necessary, and all members informed in a timely manner of any proposed meeting and agenda. Any three members may request the chairperson to call a meeting, which should be held within fourteen days.

    e) New members may be proposed by any existing member. Unanimous support from all existing members is required to add the new member to the society.

    f) A member may be expelled by unanimous agreement from all the other members.


    1. Quorum

      a) The number of members required to form a Quorum of the Committee shall be three.

      b) If a quorum is not present thirty minutes after the appointed time for the meeting, all Agenda items shall stand over until the next meeting.


    2. Voting Procedures

      a) Decisions shall be taken in accordance with the votes of the majority of the members present and voting, provided that it shall be in order for the Chairperson to consider a matter as having been decided by the Committee if the general consensus among the members is in favour of such decision and no vote is asked for.

      b) Whilst voting is in progress, no member may join or leave the meeting. However, no member shall be compelled to vote.

      c) Voting shall be by show of hands. However, any member may ask for a secret vote.

      d) No proposal once approved or rejected by the Committee may be considered before the lapse of at least three months.


    3. Record of Proceedings

      a) The minutes of the meeting shall be submitted to the Committee before its next meeting. They shall be signed by the Chairperson as confirmed or amended in the next meeting.

      b) The proceedings of the Committee other than what is recorded in the minutes shall be confidential.

      c) The Committee may, at its discretion, allow copies of the minutes (or part thereof), to be made available to persons who are not members of the Committee.


    4. Judicial Proceedings

      The Chairperson and the Secretary shall represent the Society at judicial proceedings in consultation with a Legal Adviser to the Society.


    5. Alteration to Rules

      No rule of the Society shall be amended or repealed, nor may any new Rule be enacted except by at least two-thirds of the members voting.
