Welcome from the GSL

This site introduces you to the St Venera Scout Group, which was known as the Mt Carmel College Scout Group before 1995.

Our Group has been on the Internet since December 1999 and the original site was nominated amongst the best three in the category for Youth Organisations in the Malta Web Awards 2000. It was subsequently revamped in January 2004 and this current edition of the site has been on the web since December 2005.   On each occasion we introduced new pages to further enhance information to our visitors.

This latest update contains a number of pages that introduce you to our Leaders, Scout Sections, the Pipe Band and our Group Council. The history of the Group and other interesting information can be found as well amongst our pages.

Through this site we would like to strengthen our international contacts with other Scouts. We are looking at giving our members the opportunity to understand other cultures and you are therefore invited to contact us with this purpose in mind.

Another objective for this site is to establish contact with our old Scouts. It is our wish to periodically organise reunions. I am sure that all will have a lot of stories to tell. Please send us your details and if you happen to meet a fellow Mt Carmel / St Venera Scout just tell him about it so that he can register himself with us.

We hope you enjoy your visit and kindly invite you to sign our guestbook letting us have your views and suggestions.

OUR HQ PROJECT

2008 is the 33rd Anniversary since our Foundation and the 7th since the first meeting in our present HQ.

The Group prepares to Celebrate the official opening of its HQ
The Group has for the last months been planning a number of activities to celebrate this great day. More details will be communicated on this website but please keep the 27th and 28th September free.

Signing of Land Contract
On the 10/02/08 the Group signed the contract to extend the period of the lease of its HQ over a period of 49 years. This is the crowning of the hard work the Group has dedicated to this project. Present for the signing were the Hon Minister for Justice and Internal Affairs, Dr Tonio Borg, the Chief Scout Mr Vincent Cassar, the Hon Secretary and Treasurer of the Scout Association Mr Evander Borg and
Mr Mark Pizzuto respectively.

This was a very proud day for the Group and GSL Mr Mario Calleja augured that the HQ will continue to be an important meeting place for all those in St Venera and in its neighbourhood who have Scouting in their heart

The Group is now at a stage where it is looking for assistance in furnishing its premises.   We need bookcases, cupboards, chairs, etc.   Please e-mail us if you have any unwanted pieces of furniture.

The Group's Assembly Hall

Our Assembly Hall is now also available to those who wish to organise family gatherings or for educational purposes.   Details are available on request by sending us an e-mail.

Membership

The Group accepts members from 5 years onwards in the respective Scout Sections that make up the Group. Adults (parents or others) can join the Group either as part of the Group Council or as Leaders (subject to the approval of the GSL) in which case Leadership Courses that are organised by the Scout Association need to be completed. We also welcome retired adults who would like to offer their support in the day-to-day running of the Group. Please contact the GSL for more details. We look forward to meeting you.

Thoughts on Scouting

What is a Scout

He enjoys a hike through the woods more than he does a walk over the city streets.

He knows the stars by name and can find his way by them.

When he walks through the woods, he sees things others do not see.

He speaks softly and answers questions modestly.

He knows a braggart but does not challenge him.

His sense of honor is his only taskmaster, and his honor he guards as jealously as did the knights of old.

A Scout practices self-control, for he knows that men who master problems in the world must first master themselves.

A Scout never flinches in the face of danger. He must be alert to preserve his safety and that of others.

He desires a strong body, an alert mind, and an unconquerable spirit.

Always to "Be prepared".
